Expedition: PNY2009
Three Jeep Wrangler Rubicons rebuilt to expedition vehicles face a great challenge in order to not leave any traces and still make history. The expedition “Paris / New York – Transcontinental 2009” started in October 2008 in Paris. In the effort to leave the environment intact on this stretch of almost 43,000 kilometers, the project management has committed itself to take the following actions:
- The vehicles will only cross meter deep snow and ice as well as deep-frozen soil, known as permafrost.
- Among others, low-emission bio fuel and bio oil on the basis of renewable / sustainable and readily biodegradable energy resources will be used for the engines, axles and the transmissions.
- Throughout the entire project, the CO2-level will be closely monitored.
- The expedition will only use state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment.
For all three expedition vehicles Matthias Jeschke and his team are using Webasto Air Top products in order to achieve well-being temperatures when they enter regions with temperatures with less than -50° Celsius (- 58° F). Especially in Siberia and when crossing the Bering Strait the team has to sleep in the expedition vehicles and has to rely on the well-proven Webasto heaters.
Expedition Support incorporates in further heater development
For Webasto it is not only about the expedition support. Webasto is also testing the heating solutions under extreme conditions which at the end becomes beneficial for all Webasto customers.
The results of this expedition, meaning the behaviour of the heaters under these conditions and the feedback of the expedition team will be evaluated by Webasto and will be incorporated in future as well as further development of Webasto comfort solutions.
